![]() ![]() ![]() While short, the album makes adequate background material for other tasks, but falls short of the dynamism that would qualify it as interesting listening material rather than just atmosphere. Overall, it's a basically OK score, but nothing particularly special or original (except, perhaps, in the use of real live players rather than sampling keyboards). Much of the music is broken down into two thematic structures - "No One But You" ( Irene Cara turns in her usual sterling work on the vocal version) and "Spirit In the Wind," both of which are merged and crossed in various suites and cues. China Cry, a drama movie starring Julia Nickson, Russell Wong, and James Shigeta is. The soundtrack album is fairly typical in that the music leans toward simple anthems as thematic material, building most of the score on straightforward Western musical ideas with sweeping strings, soaring brass fanfares and dynamic piano. Based on Nora Lams (Julia Nickson-Soul) book about her persecution as a Christian in 1950s China, and her escape with her husband (Russell Wong). China Cry is a Christian-oriented movie based on the survival story of Nora Lam, who fled Communist China after the government in power destroyed her family and her life. ![]()
